mMCHIT: The Midwifery Services Scheme (MSS) of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), since inception, has been exploring different options on incorporation of information and communication technology (ICT) into the program.
mMCHIT will be built on the OpenMRS platform which is robustly supported externally and also within Nigeria. Using PDA/smartphones & netbooks/laptops, we will be able to collect health data on our population in real time. This data will also be collected in a manner that would allow easy analysis on multiple dimensions (analysis by health worker, PHC, state or zone). In addition, mMCHIT will provide decision support for Frontline health workers via robust mobile applications as well as facilitating communication and information sharing across frontline workers and head office support staff. mMCHIT will also allow the continuous education/training of workers on the field in a cheap, scalable and measureable format.
